I know, I know... I never post anymore. Life is nuts, really. I can't find time to read blogs either! But I have a free few minutes this morning to pass along...
WE GOT APPROVED FOR AN EXTENSION!!!! Yeah, now we will be here for a third year. I know it seems crazy to some, especially with all the bombs, tear gas and general unrest of this country but on the flip side it is BEAUTIFUL! The people are so nice too. And the weather is fabulous! And let's not forget the maid :o) Plus Max is now using sentences in spanish. All he needs is vocabulary because he has the basic structure down. Miss Maggie is working on it. She understands common questions and responds appropriately but most of the time she just repeats what people say to her. Not sure if I mentioned this to ya'll but she has an auditory processing and formulation/word finding disorder. Poor little thing. But if that's the worst of it given the drugs her mom was taking in utero it's really not that bad. We are working on it and heck, if you're gonna have a speech-language disorder I guess it's good you have a mom that's a speech therapist!
Anyway, we've had lot's of problems with our homes in the states from repairs to tenants leaving etc. The process of researching items for the best deals, with still was pretty pricey in one instance, and researching the market because a tenant claimed a $200 reduction in rent was in order given the economy (HA - NOT!) my time has been sucked up. But don't feel too sorry for me, I've also had a lot of "teas". Which believe it or not are fun. Now that I've developed a social group I've been running around alot. I went to a bullfight... post on that forthcoming, and to a factory for a Colombian purse designer where they gave us a 30% discount and tour (very cool). And lastly I stared working. I say that very loosely... I am now seeing kids, as in 2 of them, in the house. I am testing the waters. A fellow SLP is leaving in Sept and she asked me if I wanted to take over. She gets referrals direct from the embassy. The money is great and the kids will be in school all day in August so it's feasible. Also she keeps her caseload to about 10 hours a week with the kids, probably another 2 or so for paperwork. So not too bad. Anyway, I'm testing the waters as I said.
Okay, that was a jumbled post of random information. Perhaps the next will be more cohesive;o)

You are alive! I thought the sandinistas* stolt you. Sounds like the kids are doing very well! Max has always been well-spoken. Maggie will do just fine. I have every confidence in that girlie. What she lacks in any area, she makes up for in tenacity.
I am very happy you rec'd the extension. I always think the longer you can stay in one place the better. We have it worked out to spend 4-6 years in Hawai'i.
Miss you guys! Oh and by the way, Tanner is SIX now!
*wrong country, I know - but with the beef with the USMC and all... ya never know.
YAY - I'm super excited for you!!!
Awesome!
We miss you, but are so glad you got the extension; I know you really wanted it. Hugs to you all!
YAY!!!
I'm a little sad you won't be visiting N.O. any time soon, but I'm stoked you get to stay in your palace..i mean..apartment. And with an empleada! WAHOO!
=)
That is great Michelle.
I can just hear Max's little voice talking to me in Spanish! As far as Maggie, I agree with Morgan, that tenacious little girl will be just fine. Not to mention the great parents she got blessed with!
aw yay! I know this is what you wanted! And what a cool experience for the kids to learn spanish while living in a spanish speaking country!
I'm so happy for you guys:)
